Role of the Odisha Home Guard 2025

The Home Guards are regarded as supplementary to the general police force, although they hold a secondary position. They operate efficiently and are well-disciplined within their designated responsibilities, having received adequate training. The primary aims and objectives of the Home Guards include:

(a) serving as an auxiliary to the police and assisting in the maintenance of internal security and law and order.

(b) providing support to the community during emergencies such as air raids, fires, floods, epidemics, and similar situations.

(c) maintaining operational units to deliver essential services, including motor transport, engineering and pioneer groups, fire brigades, nursing and first aid, and the management of water and power supply systems.

(d) fostering communal harmony and assisting the administration in safeguarding vulnerable segments of society.

(e) engaging in socio-economic and welfare initiatives such as adult education, health and hygiene promotion, and the implementation of development schemes, as well as other beneficial tasks.

(f) undertaking additional assignments as directed by the Commandant of Home Guards to optimize the use of available manpower.

Home Guard Service Disposal

(i) The services of the Home Guards may be made available to government departments and both public and private organizations to further the objectives of the Home Guards, upon their request.

In accordance to Directorate of fire & Emergency Service, Home Guards, and Civil defence, Odisha, Cuttack File No.N-88-2025/330/HGs,dtd. 13.02.2025, there are 47 Home Guard vacancy posts will be filled up from the eligible candidates of different Police Station of Kandhamal district. They can apply in a prescribed application form ‘A‘ through concerned IIC of the Police Station addressing to “The Commandant, Home Guards, Kandhamal – 762001.

The selection process will be held as per Home Guards Act-1961, Odisha Home Guards rules-1962 and Circular Order No.01/2025. Date of Interview and Physical test will be intimated to the candidates through concerned IICs of the Police Stations. Application forms received after last date and incomplete will be rejected by selection board. Preference would be given for candidates with trade skills like Computer skill, Driving and other technical skills, life skills etc.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for enrollment, a candidate must:
a. Be a citizen of India
b. Not be less than 20 (Twenty) years of age and more than 60 (sixty) years of age as on 1st day of January-2025.
c. Have passed at least Lower Primary (Class V) Examination.
d. Be able to speak, read and write in Odia.
e. Be of good moral character and he should not be faced trial in criminal case or convicted for any criminal offense.
f. Be of sound health and physique and free from any organic defect or body infirmity.

  2. Physical fitness test.
  3. Trade/Technical/life skill test (Computer skill test, driving test, specific technical/ life skill test etc.)
  4. Oral Test
