According to the RTE Act of 2009, children below the age of 14 are entitled to free education. The Maharashtra education department has allocated 25% of seats in private institutions for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, single-parent families, or orphans. The application period for RTE admissions for the 2025–26 academic year was from January 14 to February 2, 2025, via student.maharashtra.gov.in.
A total of 61,687 applications were submitted for 18,507 seats across 960 schools in the Pune district. Statewide, 305,161 students applied for RTE admissions. To verify the documents of students selected through the lottery, verification committees have been established under the supervision of Group Education Officers and Administrative Officers. These committees will perform an initial assessment of the documents provided by parents. Upon successful verification, the student’s admission will be recorded online, and a provisional allotment letter will be issued.
Final confirmation will occur following the document verification process. Parents are required to participate in the document verification within the specified timeframe. Those who do not comply will be granted two additional opportunities. Any admission secured through fraudulent information will be revoked at any point. The education department has recommended that parents frequently check the RTE portal instead of relying solely on SMS notifications. No admissions will be accepted after the deadline, irrespective of available vacancies.
