Function and Duties for Mizoram Home Guard Recruitment 2025
(a) The Mizoram Home Guards was established on December 6, 1971, initially operating under the Mizoram Home Guards with a designated company strength. Captain (Retd) Malsawmliana was appointed as the District Commandant and subsequently became the full-time District Commandant following the reorganization of the Home Guards in 1973, at which point it was officially named the Mizoram Home Guards. Major Zama (L) was designated as the Deputy Commandant General.
Several Junior Commissioned Officers and other personnel were integrated into newly established positions within the Mizoram Home Guards. From 1973 until 1987, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Mizoram served as the Ex-Officio Commandant General. As of August 10, 1987, the Mizoram Home Guards began operating as an independent department under the Home Department of the Government of Mizoram.
Currently, the Department comprises three main establishments:
(i) Headquarters, Chawlhhmun, Aizawl
(ii) District Headquarters, Chawlhhmun, Aizawl
(iii) Central Training Institute, Sesawng
At present, the Mizoram Home Guards and Civil Defence Department has an authorized strength of 1,322 personnel engaged in various security roles. This includes a total of 1,168 Home Guards Volunteers and 154 regular staff members assigned to the Department.
(b) Functions and Duties: The Mizoram Home Guards is responsible for providing security at 75 different locations, which include jails, banks, FCI godowns, VIPs, radio stations, traffic management, and other critical installations across the state of Mizoram.
